Women are taking a greater interest in, and have a more sophisticated understanding of electronics than ever before.
Women actually spent more on technology last year than men, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. It says women accounted for $55 billion of the $96 billion spent on electronics gear (statistic from a January 6 CEA press release).
Women are increasingly interested in gadgets, from DVD players to digital cameras, for themselves or birthday gifts for their families.
Almost a third of women consider themselves early adopters willing to buy cutting-edge consumer technology.
CEA reported that women in the United States are becoming more likely to use consumer electronics. CEA’s study provides detailed information about the attitudes, purchase considerations, decision influences, purchase channels, current product ownership, and future purchase intent. Here are some of the findings:
• Women are involved in 89 percent of all consumer electronics purchase decisions.
• 84% of women believe that new technologies can improve their lives.
• 48% of women age 18-34 own a digital camera.
The CEA survey noted that women have very positive reactions to specific technology areas, like HDTV, cell phones, and digital photography.
Women have more buying power and they increasingly use technology to manage their busy schedules. Women’s comfort level with technology is at an all-time high.
Women want products that make it easy to connect and make it easy to operate; limited wiring or no wires at all; slim, well-designed products; making electronics available in different colors is not very important; low on setup and high on usability. Usability often is an important factor to women when they buy technology;
At CES, organizers hung big pink banners saying “Technology is a Girl’s Best Friend,” even though the group’s own research found a third of women surveyed don’t like products with girlie colors.
Nearly three-quarters of women surveyed complained about being ignored or patronized by sales people when shopping for electronics.
A growing number of companies are starting to target their wares toward female buyers.
Sony is outfitting its electronics with features that many women seek and is designing Sony Style retail stores to appeal to women’s preferences by creating an environment where women feel comfortable. Many of Sony’s efforts are focused on functionality. Women are becoming informed and involved in technology areas where they once had little or no presence.

The few weeks ago, I powered my TV on and it wouldn’t turn on. The red LED in front just kept flashing until it went out and the “Lamp” light turned on. Oh great, my spouse had just left on a militaristic deployment and now I am without TV.

I instantly logged onto my computer to write my hubby, who just insisted we buy a LCD HDTV three years ago. I told him that his “impressive” TV is down and now I have no hubby and no TV either.

You have to love recent technology because the next thing I know, he wrote back and told me he bought the extended warranty on the Sony HDTV. The extended warranty only lasts 4 years so I knew we were pushing it.

I also knew the paperwork was buried somewhere with all the rest of the essential documents we had. After fumbling through documents for an hour, I eventually recovered it in an unopened box from our move. I opened it up and found the date of purchase, exactly 3 months shy of four years.

YES! So I rang Sony and let them know the HDTV model I have and my purchase code. They arranged a near-by electronics place to come to my residence, make positive it was the lamp and then replace it.

They even gave me an appointment day and time. I waited around all day for the serviceman to come to my residence the day of the appointment but he never showed up.

Do you know how annoying it is to go from a 52″ HDTV to no high definition 19″ television? It’s quite dissatisfying. I called the electronics company and ask them what happened. They gave me another repair date and apologized, which was fine, everyone makes mistakes.

Still, the next appointment never happened either. Then I called again and they said that they just went ahead and ordered the lamp. They said the lamp would arrive in two days. Three days after, there was still no lamp.

It wasn’t until almost 2 weeks after that they finally got to my residence with the lamp. The two techs simply took off the front panel to the TV, unscrewed the lamp framing, and replaced it. It took roughly ten minutes.

I could have certainly ordered the lamp myself and repaired it more than a week ago. I will definitely recall that for the next time my loved high definition TV’s bulb burns out.

So in attempting to connect my TV in the best way possible, it was necessary to do a bit of research into video cabling and the various qualities of each method of connection.

S-Video stands for “separated-video”. This is the next step up from composite video.

Interestingly here, we see that the bandwidth (or the volume of data) of an S-Video cable is the same as for a composite video cable. The difference is that S-Video reduces dot crawl, hanging dots, and crawling edges that appear on the vertical and horizontal edges of some colored objects in the picture. Dot crawl, hanging dots, and others are technological terminology for various odd effects that can happen in signal transfer that skew, distort, or otherwise make the picture worse.

S-Video works basically by separating the color information (Chrominance) from the brightness (Luminance). By doing this, it reduces things like color bleeding and dot crawl and greatly increases the general clarity and sharpness of the picture. The reason that this is so is that televisions are designed to display separate Luminance (Y) and Chrominance (C) signals.

If you have the option to use S-Video, it is preferable to component cable any day. This technology will stay around for a while as it is still the best option for certain electronic components that have a video output yet do not yet support HDMI or Component Video. You can get a decent quality S-Video cable for less than $20.

See example - www.ewholesaleoutlet.com/product_info.php?products_id=4590

Component (not composite) Video [aka Analog Component Video; Y - Pb - Pr; red-green-blue]:

Uses a three jack cluster of wires with the ends color coded green, blue, and red.

Y-Pb-Pr, or what we nowadays refer to as component video or color difference video, was invented to simplify video electronics and reduce the overall bandwidth requirements for transmitting video compared with RGB. In practice it provides one luminance signal with full horizontal resolution and two color signals with reduced horizontal resolution.

Y = Luminance, Pb = Chrominance 1, Pr = Chrominance 2

From your DVD player or HDTV set top box to your TV, it is analog, thus its full name is properly “analog component video”.

Also referred to as Y, R-Y, B-Y or color difference video. Some DVD players label the green, blue, and red jacks Y, Cb, Cr .

This cable may be a bit more expensive but is worth the money. Remember you can get great deals online on these cables.

See Example - www.ewholesaleoutlet.com/product_info.php?products_id=1304

Composite Video [RCA or BNC] (aka “yellow-plug” video)

The old “AV” standard connector. I have had these for years, and used to use them with my Super NES. Fun retro stuff. The common RCA connector is color-coded Yellow for Composite video. This cable also came with a red and white audio cable, but we will not discuss that here. That’s for later.

The term “yellow-plug video” is recommended to help cut down on confusion between “composite” and “component” (which sound alike and are often confused).

See example here : www.ewholesaleoutlet.com/product_info.php?products_id=5573

And in case you are asking, “Where’s the HDMI?” don’t worry a breakdown of HDMI cabling is on its way.

SUMMARY:

The three types of standard video connections described in the following table give you three levels of video quality. Optimize your viewing experience by using the best connection available for your connected component. For example, if your DVD player supports a component video connection, connect the DVD player to your Plasma TV using component video instead of composite video or S-Video. Remember you can have an incredible TV and an incredible Blu-Ray video source but if you don’t have the proper connection between the two, you will completely lose quality. Use the best that you can for your connections. This in turn, will bring you a great theater and media experience.

When I graduated from college and decided to move to the big apple, I knew that money was going to be tight. I managed to undertake an apartment for much less than I had expected but I still knew I needed money for bills and other necessary items.

I have a neat job but it doesn’t pay enough money to support me with much disposable income. So I needed to gain ways to cut corners anyway thinkable. I started to visit garage sales to ascertain any miscellaneous items for decorating my apartment.

I also searched through clearance bins and collected as many coupons as I could for department stores. I was quickly discovery things that are my style and saving oodles of cash. Another important part of my living status is recreation.

I am not big on music, but I am big on watching television. I knew I had to invest in a good television if I invested in anything. I was even willing to eat tuna every night for a month so I could gather up enough cash for an HDTV. I am not a typical early 22 year old who just places everything I can’t afford on a credit card.

Instead, I will make sacrifices so I can pay for what I need with cash. After I saved enough money, I called the cable provider to see how much per month I would have to pay to have HD service. The cable company said that it would be virtually $15 more a month.

I budgeted it into my financial situation and left the apartment to get my first HDTV. When I arrived at the electronics store, all of the HDTVs overwhelmed me. I knew I didn’t want a gigantic tv but I desired one that was big enough.

While I was browsing, I couldn’t believe the HD pictures on the televisions. They were so sharp and I could hardly wait to get it in my apartment so I could watch my most favorite shows in HD. I decided on a 42 inch because it seemed to be large enough for my needs.

It looks tremendous against my picture window. I was even able to organise my furnishings perfectly around it so when all my buddies come to visit everyone can see what I have on. I am even planning a party for all of my family and friends. The important feature will be some great taco’s and a film on my big screen.

ACAA contest was just around the corner and I was getting excited.I had my 52″ HDTV ready to go and my partner was planning to bake some of those wonderful game goodies I love to stuff my face with during the game.

I knew that it was going to be a major game because all the teams were good. Since I am originally from North Carolina, I root for UNC while my spouse roots for Duke.

This makes it an engrossing event in my sanctuary when UNC plays Duke. We are both high-spirited individuals so it’s no question the neighbors always wonder what we are up to when we catch these teams.

This gathering, we decided to have many of the these same neighbors over to our residence for a little party. I am ready to go and hope that my team beats out my woman’s treasured Duke.

This time, I am even more fevered than the last because I nearly wasn’t able to view the games because of many budget cuts we made in our house. My wife said if I craved my treasured new sports car, I would
have to give up the HDTV service we have from our cable provider.

I was crushed but not enough to give up the car. Miraculously, my buddy told me about a special antenna. You buy an antenna for interior or outside use and it gives you a HDTV picture.

It will actually furnish you with a crisper signal output than the one you acquire from a cable company. I took my friend’s word for it and purchased the antenna.

I received it a few days before the game. My spouse doubled her arms crossways her chest and just looked at me as if I was unbalanced. I didn’t care because I was about to possess the best of both worlds.

I hooked up the antenna and turned on my HDTV. All of a sudden, my TV was searching for all of the channels I had before my budget cut back. The day of the game was impressive! It felt like I was in the stands with
the finest sit in the house.

Actually, I felt like I was on the court because the image was so colorful and sharp. The players looked like they would arise right out of the screen.

What would I have ever done without my antenna and HDTV, I do not know. I am so gladsome that I have my
TV back, my new car and the UNC finish!

My husband’s birthday is coming up soon and I know he has been eyeing a new television. HDTVs have been out for a little while now so I am certain that is what I will need to buy. I don’t know much about HD stuff but I do know the picture is suppose to be wondrous. Last month I was over at my mom’s place and was admiring the screen on her HDTV.

I can understand why everyone is going nuts over them. The HD picture truly is impressive. I went ahead and asked her how much she paid for hers and I nearly fell over. Of course, hers is the largest one they make and has everything you can think of. I am not sure if we would ever use half the features she has on hers.

So I started searching the Cyberspace to find out more about this technology titled HD and HDTV. I found out I didn’t need to buy a gigantic tv to get the same benefits. The smaller ones will provide us with the same type of image just at a smaller degree.

The smaller ones were much more inexpensive and were still a major upgrade from our old 20″. I also read that I could get HD service from my cable provider and receive several of the HD channels available now. I was starting to get thrilled about my partner’s birthday present.

I decided to go out to Circuit City to see what they had available. I spoke to the sales person who told me everything I desired to know about the televisions. I decided to go with a 50″ Panasonic HDTV. I thought it was the perfect size and cost too.

I scheduled delivery for his birthday so he will be stunned and have a new toy to play with on his day. I didn’t truly know much about the new technology out for televisions until now. I am so glad I took the time to look into it. I think we will spend many nights on the sofa watching movies because now we have the theater experience in our own abode.

Truly, if you think about it, in the long run we will be saving money because we won’t have to go out to the movie theatre and pay for those overpriced show tickets, candy and drinks. See, I knew this gift would serve more of a purpose than just being a television my husband wanted for his birthday.

It’s not hard to see why DVD players have taken the video world by storm. All you have to do is watch a movie on DVD and then watch that same movie on VHS tape instead. The difference can be startling. So just as CDs took over the audio world, DVDs are dominant in the video world, and DVD players are a staple of the home entertainment center, and certainly of a home theater setup too.

So what should you know when you shop for DVD players? Well, as with everything a lot depends on your budget but here are some of the features to look for when you buy a DVD player:

* In the electronics world, cable connections are very important and it’s no different with DVD players. Almost all DVD players come with a standard composite-video cable to connect the player to the TV, and this kind of cable can produce a decent picture. But it’s also very limiting because the black and white, and color video signals are all sent together through this cable and it’s easy for the colors to bleed over into other colors and lose detail and sharpness. If your DVD p[layer comes with a S-video cable this can dramatically improve the video as this cable can separate out the black and white from the color signals resulting in greater clarity. Finally if you get a DVD player that can use a component-video cable that can be the best yet because it also splits the color signal too, allowing even greater color range and detail.

* It’s good to have an aspect control feature on a DVD player too. Many DVD movies are coming now in different formats to fit whatever TV you have. The aspect control lets you take advantage of this and tune the movie to the specific ratio that best fits the size of your television screen.

* Some DVD players have multi-angle capability built in and that can be useful at times too. It doesn’t work with all DVDs, but with those that are compatible, it’s pretty cool. It actually allows you to adjust the picture angle so that you can view the action from different perspectives.

* Having surround sound decoding built into your DVD players can be very useful too, especially if you have a Dolby Digital receiver and at least six speakers to achieve the 5.1 surround sound effect. If your receiver does not have the Dolby 5.1 decoder built into it then you need to have it decoded by the DVD player before it is sent to the receiver. Once at the receiver the signal is amplified and distributed to the appropriate speakers in the room. If you wish to use the more recent 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound systems you will need to have the decoder for that on your DVD player too, and either 7 or 8 speakers to match.

These are some of the features that can be most useful when you are playing DVDs, so look for them the next time you want to buy a DVD player.

So, you’ve looked at thousands of internet web-sites, promising you high profits with little investment. Everything, from bogus work at home opportunities to secret eBay wholesale supplier lists, that supposedly give you access to exclusive suppliers that eBay powersellers use. However, still no tangible results that lead to truly sustainable and self-sufficient business. The bottom line is that there is no such thing as easy money. No matter what type of business you run, you have to work and dedicate your time and efforts to grow and develop your business. Still some people think that quick cash does exsit, and indeed it does but only for those internet or telephone scammers who deceive people and steal their money. Everyday scams become more sophisticated and trustworthy, however they all have a common trend: if it sounds too good, it probably is. Form more information on scams and how to identify and avoid them, see our tutorial Avoiding Scam 101.
Import Source One is an educational resource that deals with small-business start up based upon importation of foreign products (electronics, decor items, furniture, etc.). Today our topic is Import from China. China is one of the most fast growing economies of the world, with good investment opportunities. Chinese product have established dominant presence in many countries of the world. And all familiar label “Made in China” can be seen everywhere and is hard to ignore. Some people might say that chinese products might have poor quality and if you are looking for top quality you should turn to the home market. Not exactly true. Yes, indeed, there are Chinese suppliers that focus on a short-term business and sacrifice quality for higher profit margins but, there are many that do not. More and more chinese factories focus on the long-term business relationship and implement effective quality control procedures and seek quality certifications recognized by Western world.
In today’s article we will discuss what do you need to know before you import and how to import from China. We assume you have a supplier in China. If you don’t, please read Finding a good Chinese supplier. If you have not decided what are you going to sell, here are a few popular selling items from RFQs of major trade networks:
7″ Portable DVD

MP3/Mp4 Players

Sony Memory Stick

SD, xD, CF card

Apple iPod

Sony PSP

Microsoft XBOX

LCD, HDTV, Plasma TV

and the list goes on…

O.K. So you have decided what are you going to sell and found a Chinese trade company or factory that will supply your product. You have also conducted your research, you have verified that the company is legally registered and is not listed anywhere as a scam. But what’s next? How much should you order and how to get your order to your home or office? Most companies have high Minimum Order Quantities (M.O.Q), say a 100 or even 1000pcs. If each item costs 30$ it comes to 30,000$ for 1000 items. Ask yourself can you afford that? Do you have the necessary sales channels and strong marketing base to process this quantity and generate profit? Most people do not have that. That is why many comanies allow to order samples, 5-10pcs only! Samples are extremely important, not only they allow you to test the quality of the product but also run a test drive of how the product is going to sell in your local market or an auction web-site, eBay or Yahoo (it is highly recommended however to thoghroughly research the market before you make an order). Now you are ready to place an order, say for 10pcs, your supplier issues you a Proforma Invoice, which outlines the cost of the ordered goods, delivery method and all other applicable charges. So, how will you pay? The most common way is through bank wire transfer or T/T transfer. Many chinese suppliers also accept Letter of Credit (LC) but only for high quantity orders. If you want to pay with your credit card, most likely it is not going to happen as most of the chinese banks do not support this payment method or it is too expensive to process. Once your supplier receives your payment they will ship the goods to you by the method you have chosen, it could be either sea, land or air. You select your delivey method based on how urgently you need your goods, for the case of a sample order your supplier will probably use a courrier service like FedEx, DHL or EMS. We will discuss container (sea) and land (train, truck) in the our next tutorial.
