5000 Series Design Collection
A new family of products which surprise and delight by the way they look, behave and interact. A consistent, iconic signature creates distinction over the ranges. Embodied by the 5000 series LCD flat TV, distinctive and timeless, designed as a focal point for the family, yet discreet rather than dominant.
Full HD LCD display, with a 1920×1080p resolution
The Full HD screen has the widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1080p. This is the highest resolution of HD sources for the best possible picture quality. It is fully future proof as it supports 1080p signals from all sources, including the most recent like Blu-ray and advanced HD game consoles. The signal processing is extensively upgraded to support this much higher signal quality and resolution. It produces brilliant flicker-free progressive scan pictures with superb brightness and colors.
Invisible speakers with incredible surround
An invisible sound system that blends perfectly with the design of the cabinet. Optimal acoustics with horn shaped acoustical reflector for mid and high frequencies. It gives a clear and spacious sound stage complementary to the rich viewing experience.
HD Natural Motion for ultra smooth motion in Full HD movies
Philips invented HD Natural Motion to eliminate juddering effects that are visible with movie based picture content. HD Natural Motion estimates motion in the picture and corrects juddering movements in both broadcast and recorded movie material (such as DVD and Blu-ray Disc). The resulting smooth motion reproduction and excellent sharpness take the viewing experience to a higher level. HD Natural Motion removes judder from SD and HD pictures, including 1080p, for a motion performance that surpasses the cinema.
EasyLink: easy control of TV & connected device via HDMI CEC
The Full HD screen has the widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1080p. This is the highest resolution of HD sources for the best possible picture quality. It is fully future proof as it supports 1080p signals from all sources, including the most recent like Blu-ray and advanced HD game consoles. The signal processing is extensively upgraded to support this much higher signal quality and resolution. It produces brilliant flicker-free progressive scan pictures with superb brightness and colors.
Pixel Plus 3 HD for most sharp and clear pictures
Pixel Plus 3 HD offers the unique combination of ultimate sharpness, natural detail, vivid colors and smooth natural motion on all qualities of HD, standard TV signals and multimedia content, for high definition displays. Each pixel of the incoming picture is enhanced to better match the surrounding pixels, resulting in a more natural picture. Artifacts and noise in all sources from multimedia, standard TV and highly compressed HD are detected and reduced ensuring that the picture is clean and razor sharp.

Own two and I'd buy more
I bought a 47" Philips LCD TV about a year ago and was very happy with it. When the time came to re-do the bedroom (her wish) it was time for a new TV (my condition). I bought my first one around 4 months ago and installed it up on the wall in the bedroom (with the mount I used I did it myself, but it was a workout).
Picture - The first thing I have to say is there are times the picture is spooky good. I was watching a regular DVD of 'Stargate Atlantis' on it and remember when the dead girl crawls out of the TV screen in the movie 'The Ring'? It looked like the actors were coming out of the screen at me. 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' in 3D? Man is it hard to duck in bed! I think part of that is the upgrade to 120 Hz. The 'Power Saver' mode is nice in the bedroom because it darkens the picture when someone wants to watch TV but someone else wants to sleep. One annoying thing, it's minor and I only mention it because the 47" Philips I own does not do it, but when you turn this TV on a black screen goes to a brilliant bright white screen with 'PHILIPS' in blue across it. Not really necessary or appreciated in a dark bedroom 1st thing in the morning.
Sound - This TV hands down has the best sound for a LCD it's size that I've come across (I've installed about 10 LCD's' so far for friends and family). Controlling the sound environment for this TV seems to be driven off of the picture mode you select. Example - If you select 'SPORTS' for the picture, along with a change in the picture the surround effect is enhanced greatly so the crowd noise increases. There are multiple picture modes to play with though so it's not hard to find one that's pleasing to your audio and video tastes. I also wish it had an output for a subwoofer. It has a 'S/PDIF' output for a stereo but no other connections that go out other than a headphone jack. It does have equalizer settings that you can tweak.
Other - Upgrading to newer software is slick. D/L the newest version from Philips onto a USB drive and plug it in. Read the directions the first time though to explain what you'll see. I've done it once on my TV with no problems. The remote is well laid out, but is not backlit and the buttons are not raised like most TV remotes I've seen. That makes it a little harder to tell what you're doing. I liked the TV enough and thought it simple enough to operate (though Vizio still wins that category IMO) that I bought my 80+ year old parents one of them for an early Christmas present. No complaints so far. They're out in the country and get their HD from OTA stations. Spectacular picture and they are at least 40 miles away from the nearest tower so the built-in tuner is no slouch either. Philips has a winner on their hands with this TV.

Beautiful TV, great picture quality, small glitches.
I love this TV, except for the green pixel in the middle while warming up and the DVR shows are the same! I can't stand the Natural Motion and other modern settings on the TV. With HD channels it produces amazing picture and the energy savings are great too. Would not recommend the power save mode!

GREAT DEAL! GREAT PURCHASE!
The reason why I love this television is 1. It received great reviews on CNET.com 2. Eco-friendly and if I'm not mistaken most of the parts are from biodegradable materials.
Technicalities: I am pretty tech savvy, and the setup is extremely easy to use. As well as the attachments necessary for other components in your audio/video fields. The only issue I may have is that I need to find the code for my cable remote control, so that I don't have to keep using the television remote for volume and on/off function.
I haven't gotten the hand as of yet in programming the style of television viewing; whether I like widescreen ratios or regular ratios or zoom features, and color schematics, but that will come with time.
In the meantime, if you're thinking about purchasing this item, I'd say yes. I am not the only one this year who has purchased this item, and a good friend of mine works in IT for a large corporation, and has purchased this item as well. So there you go, if IT purchases this, then you should too!

Obama in HD!
We bought this TV just so we could watch Obama's inauguration in HD while being as caring and compassionate as we can about Mother Earth. This TV carries Al Gore's signature of approval, having been imported from a foreign country, to eventually be disposed of in the same foreign country - thereby restoring America's claim as the happiest shiniest beacon on the hill, the envy of eurotrash throughout the world. However, we have had to explain (several times) to our neighbors that the U.S. is not YET a socialist country, and that the communal "borrowing" of the set for extended periods of time is not chillbilly. They can cling to their guns and religion all they want - but hands off the HDTV. One other positive note - the TV appears to have a glitch when attempting to access FOX News - every 30 seconds or so it mysteriously flips back over to MSNBC. So we give this television a 4 out of 5, the set having lost one star due to the passage of Proposition 8 in California. Not entirely the TV's fault - but it feels good to blame someone other than the urban homophobes who showed up to vote for Obama.

Wonderful TV
I purchased this TV from another retailer about half a year ago, and I have found it to be a great TV. The picture is outstanding and crisp using an HDMI cable and a PS3. The power saver mode seems to 'dim' the picture, making it less bright and vibrant. When I'm watching the news or just flipping around, I tend to use this mode. I also use it at night when my significant other is sleeping or going to sleep (or vice versa.)
The edges do not glow, and the TV doesn't look light blue in my lighting conditions. Pretty much looks black to me.
The sound is pretty decent, if you aren't going to hook it up to anything. I was actually mildly surprised by the quality of the sound. I have to set about 7 inches from a wall and the speakers are in the rear of the TV. (obviously) I think if you are going to have it in the open, the sound might suffer.
I use comcast cable (Hunterdon County,NJ area) and this TV was ablt to pick up ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, My Network TV, and FOX's HD feeds from my regular cable connection. Which is nice at no extra charge. I also get some others, like USA as well.
I really am pleased with this product and think that if you are in the market for a flat panel LCD TV, you should check this TV out.
